Can You See Everest from Gokyo?
Can You See Everest from Gokyo?
Blog Article
When I first heard about the Gokyo Lake trek, I was super excited. I read that not only do you walk by beautiful blue lakes, but you also get to see Mount Everest! During the Gokyo Lake trek, you climb a small peak called Gokyo Ri, which stands at 5,357 meters (17,575 feet) (Nepal Tourism Board, 2023). From the top, you can see Mount Everest, along with other giant mountains like Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
Many trekkers say that the view from Gokyo Ri is even better than from Everest Base Camp. It feels like you are standing on top of the world, with mountains all around you. In fact, every year, thousands of trekkers choose the Gokyo Lake trek because they want to see Everest without the heavy crowds of Everest Base Camp (TAAN, 2023).
The trek itself is a little challenging because of the high altitude, but it is slower and quieter. There are cozy tea houses along the way where you can sleep and eat. I loved seeing the peaceful Gokyo Lakes shining under the sun, and reaching Gokyo Ri early in the morning was the best part of my trip. Watching the first light hit the peak of Everest is a moment I will never forget.
If you want to see Everest and enjoy calm, beautiful places, the Gokyo Lake trek is a perfect choice!
